HOSEPIPE BAN LIFTED ACROSS THE ISLE OF WIGHT AFTER MORE THAN 3 MONTHS

After more than 3 months of restrictions, Southern Water has officially lifted the hosepipe ban across the Isle of Wight.

The ban, which was introduced on 21st July amid record dry weather, has been removed following improved reservoir levels and recent rainfall across the region, bringing relief to households who have been conserving water throughout the Summer.

Southern Water confirmed the decision quietly this week, thanking customers for their cooperation and commitment to saving water during what has been one of the driest spells in recent years.

It means Islanders can go back to washing their cars and jetwashing the patio.

A spokesperson for the company has said:

“The hosepipe ban has now been lifted. Thank you for following restrictions this summer.

“Customers across Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight have helped save millions of litres of water, protecting the River Test and Itchen, where most of your water comes from.”

Tim McMahon, Southern Water’s Director of Water, has said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to our customers for their support and understanding during this challenging time.

“This is a great example of how working together can make a real difference to our environment.”

The restrictions were introduced to safeguard local water supplies after prolonged dry conditions placed pressure on key sources serving both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

While the ban meant residents were unable to use hosepipes for activities such as watering gardens or washing cars, many adapted by using collected rainwater or watering cans instead.
