SSE - Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution VanHomes and businesses across the Isle of Wight have this evening (Tuesday) been hit by two separate power cuts.

A sub station fault has affected over 600 homes in Sandown, Shanklin, Luccombe and Wroxall primarily, with homes in Newport and Cowes also hit. Scottish and Southern Energy say power should be restored to all properties by 19:00, however Island Echo understands power has already returned to the majority with a generator being used.

Meanwhile, a second fault is affecting a further 200 properties in Ryde and surrounding rural communities such as Brading, Havenstreet and St Helens.

It is anticipated that power in the North East section of the Island will remain off until 22:00.
