The Environment Agency says that property flooding could occur tomorrow morning (Thursday) if forecast heavy rain overnight hits the Isle of Wight. A flood alert for the Eastern Yar – between Whitwell and Bembridge – is currently in force, although water levels are falling. Minor flooding is anticipated around Golf Links Road and Morton Common today but no impact is expected at Langbridge and Alverstone. However, as previously reported by Island Echo, up to 35mm of rainfall is expected between this evening and 04:00 tomorrow morning. IW Met Service has issued a yellow weather warning. The Environment Agency is predicting as much as 50mm of rainfall. It’s said that this rainfall will cause the river to rise and, should the amount be at the higher end of predictions, property flooding is possible. Residents are being urged to ensure that flood protection is operational.
