Island youngsters will have plenty to keep them busy this February half-term, with libraries across the Isle of Wight preparing a packed programme of crafts, stories and special guests.
Lord Louis Library in Newport is embracing a magical theme, with children invited to make their own fire-breathing dragons and meet magician Naturally Nick, who will be sharing a few tricks of the trade.
Youngsters can also create magical wings to wear to Tales from the Wishing Tree, a special story and rhyme time led by children’s librarian Mandy at Quay Arts as part of the Isle of Wight Story Festival.
Older children are catered for too, with a tote-bag design workshop for those aged 11 to 15.
In Ryde, author and illustrator Neal Layton will appear fresh from the Story Festival. He will deliver an interactive reading of his latest book with Michael Rosen, Hot Food: Nice!, complete with live illustration and a draw-along session.
Sandown Library will host award-winning Coppice Theatre, performing How to Catch a Bookwitch? on Friday (20th February). Tickets are priced at £4 per child, with up to 2 accompanying adults admitted free.
Freshwater and Ventnor libraries are marking Valentine’s Day with themed crafts, including Valentine scratch art at Freshwater and love-bug making at Ventnor.
Cowes Library will run a mini book-making workshop as well as a special Book Start story time for younger families.
With activities taking place across the Isle of Wight, there is something for all ages. For more information about half-term events and services, visit www.iow.gov.uk/libraries or follow @IWLibraries on Facebook.
