A Newport woman who kicked a fire extinguisher off the wall before throwing it down a set of stairs has been handed a new community order.
Mazie Bailey, 21, of Atkinson Drive in Newport, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week (10th September) having previously admitted criminal damage to property under £5,000 and common assault.
Lauren Stone, prosecuting, told the court that on 18th June, at a supported living premises, Bailey kicked a fire extinguisher off the wall before throwing it downstairs into the path of someone holding a plate of food at the bottom of the stairwell.
A hook holding the extinguisher to the wall was damaged as was a fire alarm which was destroyed by the extinguisher as it came flying down the stairs. Bailey was arrested by Police, admitting to them that it was she who kicked the piece of safety equipment off the wall. When interviewed, she made no comment on all questions.
Defending Bailey, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client suffers from mental health issues and that on the day in question, she was experiencing difficulties in her personal life. He added that Bailey tends to take her frustrations out on objects and things as opposed to people.
Magistrates opted to revoke and resentence Bailey to a new 24-month community order with 34 rehabilitation days and a 9-month alcohol treatment requirement.

Mental health and alcohol seems to run freely on this island.
If you get rid of one you shall be rid of the other which will free up the courts time.
This name appears quite a lot, community orders obviously don’t work, give everyone a rest and send her down for a couple of years
