UPDATED WEDNESDAY @ 08:38 – Police have this morning confirmed that an elderly woman was discovered in her home with serious injuries at just before 18:00 yesterday evening and that they are keeping an open mind as to how the injuries were sustained.
The possibility of a crime having taken place has not been ruled out, according to a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary. It remains unclear as to the specifics of the incident and it is currently unknown if the woman was assaulted – although initial indications suggest a third party was involved.
The property remains cordoned off this morning with a trail across a grassed area also cordoned off. Police remain on the scene guarding the terraced house while enquiries are ongoing.
It is currently unknown where in the property the woman was discovered, however a bedroom light remains turned on this morning suggesting activity in the upstairs room overnight.
There is no information to suggest a wider risk to the community.
UPDATE @ 14:00 – Island Echo understands the woman – a grandmother – has been placed into an induced coma in hospital. Further information is yet to be released as to the circumstances of the situation.
Forensic teams have returned to the property today and a tent has been erected outside the house.
