A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight with flash flooding fears raised amid a predicted 35mm of rainfall overnight. The warning is in force from 19:00 this evening through to 04:00 tomorrow morning (Thursday) – with the heaviest rainfall expected after midnight. Forecasters at IW Met Service say that a spell will develop through this evening, becoming heavy at times. This will bring rainfall totals of between 10-15mm in places. A second spell of rain is likely after midnight as the remains of weakening thunderstorms pass over the Island, however, by this time the lightning risk will be significantly reduced. What is of concern is the risk of a further downpour of rain which could bring a further 15-20mm of rainfall in places, falling in just a few hours. Localised flash flooding in the usual prone locations is a risk, as is debris being washed across the roads.
