FIRE SERVICE CALLED TO SERIOUS RTC

rtcblackwaterUPDATED: Firefighters have this morning (Wednesday) been called to a serious road traffic collision on Blackwater Road on the outskirts of Newport.

Two appliances are currently attending the incident alongside Police and Ambulance, where it is understood the driver of a van has become trapped.

The road has been closed at the junction with Blackwater Hollow.

UPDATE @ 09:06 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to the scene due to the severity of the injuries sustained.

It is understood a line-marking lorry has been involved in the collision.

UPDATE @ 09:40 – The driver of the van has been cut free by firefighters this morning.

Police have escorted the injured driver to St Mary’s Hospital and the air ambulance has been placed on standby should it be deemed the patient requires further treatment at a mainland hospital.
