Fire crews have tackled a large bin fire overnight outside a popular Shanklin takeaway.
Emergency services were alerted the incident shortly after 01:30 to reports of a bin well alight outside Mr T’s takeaway in Atherley Road, Shanklin.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a member of the public had already started to extinguish the blaze with a portable fire extinguisher.
It is understood street furniture and part of the building’s fascia and roof has been damaged.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Police have today confirmed the blaze is being treated as suspicious.
Two 13-year-old boys have been questioned on suspicion of arson and have both been bailed until next Wednesday pending further enquiries.
A third suspect, believed to be running away from the scene towards Shanklin Train Station, is yet to be located.
