Southern Vectis is urging Christmas and New Year’s Eve party revellers at bars and restaurants across the Island to leave their cars at home.
Backing Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s anti-drink driving ‘Operation Limit’ campaign, the bus operator is standing by for a rise in passenger numbers over the coming days.
Police have warned that drink driving remains a serious threat to life, even hours after a party ends, with increased patrols and enforcement being rolled out as part of the force’s festive crackdown.
Those choosing not to drive are being reminded that public transport remains a safe and cost-effective alternative.
Richard Tyldsley, General Manager at Southern Vectis, said:
“Our role within the community is to transport people across the Isle of Wight, so of course we’ll be encouraging people to take the bus. Particularly with some of our services on Fridays, Saturdays and New Year’s Eve – the N1, N3, N5 and N9 – running throughout the night.
“Our evening and night buses are the perfect alternative to taking unnecessary risks whilst out celebrating the festivities. And, with fares still capped at £3 for a single journey, they are often more cost-effective than a taxi.
“We’re looking forward to a sharp rise in demand this month, and would like to wish all of our customers a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
