A street party has been held at the Isle of Wight Festival today (Sunday) to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, ahead of the legendary Queen + Adam Lambert closing the 2016 festival tonight.
Festival organisers launched a competition ahead of this weekend’s event to search for a Queen lookalike and Samantha Turnbull from Romsey, who works in a cake shop in Southampton, was the chosen winner.
Samantha was honoured with guests waving Union Jack flags as well as entertainment supplied by the Bunker Girls, who led revellers in a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ as well as ‘Knees Up Mother Brown’. She was then treated to a picnic backstage including champagne, cucumber sandwiches and chocolate eclairs.
Queen + Adam Lambert will bring the event to a close when they take to the Main Stage at 21:00. Last minute tickets have been made available at the gates for £100 each.
