A section of St George’s Way in Newport, between Coppins Bridge and the Matalan Roundabout, will be reduced to a single southbound lane for the next 4 weeks, to allow the replacement of fence panels.
As the safety fencing is some metres above the carriageway, a platform needs to be erected in one of the southbound lanes for safety reasons for the duration of work between 3rd-28th November.
In total, 85m of fencing will be replaced.
Island Roads is keen to complete the work ahead of the main winter season.
A spokesperson has said:
“Modern regulations mean we cannot undertake this important work without erecting a scaffold structure both to ensure the safety of our workforce and to prevent debris from falling onto the road below.
“We’d like to thank residents in advance for their understanding during work.”

when my neighbours and I had the fencing replaced around our gardens (similar fencing, including new posts, over twice that lenght),.. it was done by 2 blokes in 3 days !

a. it’s not 4m in the air (maybe 2), but the ground level the other side of the fence is the same as top of the wall.
b. there won’t be heavy traffic ‘right next to it’, as they’re closing that lane off…

Yep by the time they have tea breaks look at their phones but safety barriers up its time to go home after a hard hour of work.

Well, Parkinson’s law says work expands to fill the time allocated to it. Why not in January ?. Or is January when they close Havenstreet again because of incompetence.
That will be a total of three weeks for the scaffolding and traffic lights and only a week for the fencing by bodge it and scarper.
Not looking forward to the inevitable traffic mayhem that will result.
Can’t wait too see them leaning against their vans on their phones and getting paid for it.
