Police were called to Little London at around 20:00 following 999 call reports of a girl – believed to be a minor – having entered the water from a height, on what was a bitterly cold night. It is understood the jump took place from the southbound carriageway of Medina Way.
Members of the public enjoying a drink in the nearby Bargeman’s Rest rushed to the girl’s aid, throwing a life buoy and pulling her out of the water.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were mobilised to the scene, before conveying the patient to St Mary’s Hospital.
Her condition is currently unknown, however witnesses have described the young girl as being ‘in a bad way’.
