UPDATE: FALLEN TREE BLOCKS ROAD AT BLACKGANG

Emergency road closure

UPDATED: Strong gusts of up to 60mph have brought a tree down across the road between Blackgang and Niton this morning (Sunday).

The A3055 Blackgang Road between Blackgang roundabout and Niton Village is currently blocked in both directions as a result of the tree falling across the carriageway.

Motorists should divert via Blythe Shute, Chale Green, Appleford Road and Niton Road.

Island Roads contractors are expected on site shortly but there is currrently no estimated time as to when the road will reopen.

Southern Vectis Route 6 buses are diverting via Chale.

UPDATE – A tree has also come down on Middle Road, near the Blacksmith Arms pub.

Island Roads have been made aware about both incidents.

UPDATE @ 11:15 – Blackgang Road has now re-opened.

Southern Vectis will now resume a normal route.
