A local paedophile has been fined £200 after yet again failing to register his details with Police.
Paul Wright, 56, of Pyle Street in Newport, appeared before Magistrates earlier this week (17th September) charged with failing to comply with notification requirements.
Prosecuting, Liz Miller, told the court that Wright went to Newport Police Station on the 24th April to complete his annual registration, however he was told by Police that he was 9 days late to register and that he should’ve in fact visited the station on 15th April.
The court heard how Wright was also a day late to register in April 2023.
Wright was handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) back in 2016 following a stint in prison. The order is set to expire in 2026.
Defending Wright, Michael McGoldrick told the court that his client had made a mess up with the days believing he had arrived 2 days early to register instead of 9 days late.
Magistrates handed Wright a £200 fine and ordered he pay costs of £85 and a £80 surcharge fee.
