UPDATED: Emergency services including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are this afternoon (Friday) attending a two-car road traffic collision in Cowes.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Place Road shortly before midday and have since requested the assistance of firefighters.
UPDATED @ 12:23 – Two fire appliances are now on the scene, with witness reports suggesting the female occupant of one vehicle has suffered suspected neck injuries.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – Fire crews are extracting a female driver from the wreckage of her vehicle following the collision between a Peugeot 206 and a Mazda 6 at the junction with Broadfield Avenue.
The road has been closed in both directions. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Southern Vectis Route 1 buses will divert via Newport Road.
UPDATE @ 13:11 – Place Road has now reopened.
