EMERGENCY CREWS RESPOND TO OVERTURNED CAR

policertcroadclosednightstockUPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and Ambulance crews are this evening (Tuesday) responding to an overturned car in Godshill.

Firefighters from Shanklin and Newport have been called to the scene on Newport Road near to the junction with Yarborough Close, where it is understood a white car has rolled onto its side.

One elderly female is trapped inside the wreckage of her car, which has collided with a second vehicle.

UPDATE @ 17:14 – Firefighters are working to free the woman from her vehicle, which remains on its side. Crews are currently using specialist cutting equipment to release the woman.

UPDATE @ 17:27 – The elderly woman has been cut free from her car, a white Citroen, and has been transferred into the care of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

rtcgodshillmapThe road is closed in both directions with Southern Vectis Routes 2 and 3 unable to serve Godshill. The bus company are warning of lengthy delays on both routes this evening.

Anyone accessing property or businesses in Godshill are advised to divert via Whitely Bank or Beacon Alley.

UPDATE @ 19:56 – Newport Road has reopened in both directions.

The vehicles involved, a white Citroen C1 and a Subaru Impreza, have been recovered by Stag Lane Motors.
