The main road between Brading and Sandown has been placed under an emergency closure this morning (Saturday) due to what Island Roads are calling an ‘electrical incident’.
Morton Road (Morton Common) has been closed to all traffic between Yarbridge Cross and Perowne Way/Avenue Road.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Network engineers are on scene and are working to resolve the situation.
Motorists travelling to or from Ryde and The Downs are having to divert via Yaverland and Marshcombe Shute.
Southern Vectis say their Route 2 and 3 buses will be following the diversion route until further notice, which may cause some delays.
UPDATE @ 11:05 – The road has now re-opened to all traffic, according to Island Roads.
It was initially thought that a telephone line had come loose and was hanging low across the carriageway, but further investigation identified the cable as a low voltage power line.
Power has now been restored to all but 1 property.
Are Wight Fibber in the area by any chance ?
quite likely
Think so as road works going on!!
And on and on and on. Yawn.
