An unoccupied house in Ryde has been left badly damaged as a result of a fire which broke out during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
2 appliances from Ryde Fire Station were mobilised to Longmead Road at 00:45 after multiple calls were received reporting that a fire had broke out, with flames as high as the surrounding buildings.
A car port, small extension, fencing and guttering has all been damaged by the blaze, which was tackled by a neighbour armed with a hose pipe ahead of the arrival of firefighters.
It is thought that wheelie bins placed underneath the car port – which have been completely destroyed – may have been maliciously set alight. Police were called to the scene overnight and are now investigating the incident.
Smoke damage has been sustained to the inside of the house also.
