DRIVER ESCAPES UNINJURED FROM BURNING CAR

firenightsideonpumpnewportUPDATED: A driver has escaped from a burning car after it caught fire whilst travelling on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Tuesday).

Firefighters from Newport were mobilised to Long Lane between Downend and Staplers Road at 04:52 following reports of one vehicle well alight.

Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze using one hose reel with two breathing apparatus sets.

The vehicle was completely destroyed, however thankfully no persons were injured.

UPDATE @ 09:00 – Officers from Hampshire Constabulary are investigating this morning’s incident as the car, a Peugeot 206, was stolen.
