45-year-old Barnaby Money, who took his partner’s brand new Volvo for a spin despite being almost 3x the drink-drive limit, has pleaded guilty to a number of driving offences.
It was on 28th December that Police spotted Money driving in a questionable manner near Havenstreet on the outskirts of Ryde, the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court heard on Friday (17th January).
Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, explained to the court that Money was spotted at around midday accelerating quickly and swerving onto the wrong side of the road in a Volvo XC40. Police followed the vehicle from the junction of Stroudwood Road and Newnham Road and witnessed further poor standards of driving.
The driver stopped of their own accord and was approached by officers, who quickly noted the smell of alcohol. A roadside breath test indicated a fail and checks revealed Money held an expired licence, which was lost due to the totting up of points. At custody, Money provided an evidential breathalyser reading of 97 – well above the legal limit of 35.
Magistrates heard that Money was previously convicted of drink driving in 2009. At Friday’s hearing, Barnaby Money pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
Defending, Jim Osborne briefly stated that there were several mitigating circumstances and asked for a pre-sentence report to be compiled.
The case was adjourned for sentencing at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 25th April 2025.
Another Numpty.
45 years of age and still does not know drink driving is
wrong!
Bang him up.
Several mitigating circumstances???
Brilliant picture!
I love the bit that states thank you for driving carefully.
IW Council think by putting up a few signs it will
STOP idiots speeding and deter them from drink driving
Lol
They need to start placing speed humps and start installing
decent speed Camera’s.
This council as a lot ti learn. I suggest they take a drive to
London and see all the speed Camera’s and let them drive
fast and they will receive a fine in the post.
Well said, but if these speed reducing humps are put in place, it needs to be the ones that you cannot drive around as that does not deter these planks. It sounds as though the council does not want to spend money on speed cameras. They will easily get the money spent by upping the fines given to speeders to help pay for them. Bloody hell, it’s not rocket science.
A litter-free village! hahah!
