Emergency services dealt with a double emergency in the West Wight yesterday (Tuesday), resulting in one person being taken to hospital.
Coastguard Rescue teams raced to Freshwater Bay shortly after 14:40 when two men, believed to be aged in their 20s, came into difficulty when rowing back to shore after a fishing trip off the south coast of the Island.
Freshwater Independent Lifeboat’s D-class boat was also tasked to the scene and safely brought the two men back to shore in strong winds.
As the rescue operation concluded, the Needles Coastguard Rescue crew spotted an elderly lady in difficulty at the top of Freshwater Bay cliffs, prompting the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to be summoned to the scene.
The unnamed woman was later taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
