A fire at Lanesend Primary School in Cowes has resulted in children being evacuated this morning (Wednesday) – just as the school day gets underway. 3 Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service appliances – from Cowes and Newport – are currently in attendance at the primary school on Love Lane. Island Echo is told that a dishwasher has caught alight, activating the school’s alarm system. The alarm is still sounding but the situation is said to be under control. Fire crews arrived on scene just before 08:45. UPDATE @ 09:18 – Vickie Sutton, Headteacher at Lanesend Primary, has said:
“You may have heard that following smoke coming from a kitchen appliance, we evacuated the school first thing this morning. “Fire crews attended and made sure everything was safe and then children returned to class. “All procedures were followed and everyone is safe”.
