Police, fire and ambulance crews are all in attendance at a road traffic collision on Middle Road in Calbourne this morning (Thursday). 2 fire appliances from Newport and a 3rd from Freshwater have been mobilised alongside 2 ambulances to the scene near the watermill, between Calbourne and Chessell. The busy Newport to Freshwater road has been closed by Police in both directions with local diversions in place. The incident occurred just before 09:05. UPDATE @ 09:54 – It’s understood the crash has occurred to the west of Calbourne Water Mill on the B340 Newport Road. UPDATE @ 11:18 – 1 person has been extricated from their purple vehicle, which rolled and came to rest on its side. They’ve been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The road remains closed.
