More idiots will be along soon…
Yes keep giving the thumbs down you ignorant parasites, you will never change…
If it’s near New Barn Lane it’s in Shorwell
More bad driving on the IW
More bad commenting on the IOW.
Idiot..
I am a motorist. I respect cyclists , but many Island roads are inadequate. Cars cannot pass oncoming cars safely on many roads. Add cyclists and the dreadful e-scooters and it is a recipe for ongoing injuries and potentially fatalities
The Council need to create many more cycle tracks or cycle lanes on the wider roads. The police need to enforce the law on e-scooters more widely. We all see under age riders, two on a scooter and they all risk their lives by not wearing helmets.
also we need a bye- law to make cycle helmets compulsory, as central government is dodging this issue. It really is a no brainer, akin to seatbelts in cars.
I agree about 90% of that, but the problem is most cyclist don’t use the existing cycle lanes. Many a times I’ve been stuck behind cyclists when there is a cycle lane literally on the other side of a hedge that they’ve decided they are above using for whatever reason.
I go to work on my bike no cycle paths to use but im all so zero emissions.
I wear all the safety gear but still get cars pulling out on me then racing past shaking there heads as if iv done something wrong
So when you are so called stuck behind cycles or pull out 10 yards infront wait be patient then we will be all a bit safer
You yourself may be creating zero emissions, yet to the vast number of cars stuck in a low gear, and suddenly putting foot down to overtake you at a safe place is causing MORE emissions than if YOU drove to few miles in a petrol car.
Yet you sleep better ‘thinking’ you have made the world a better place when you have likely not.
I don’t go to sleep thinking about it what a very strange thing for you to say
Yes most cars do overtake safety but you always get the headless chicken you know the ones them that own the roads and then the idiots that pull out a few feet in front of a bike.
And grow up you really don’t need to type in capitals im not deaf
Well, I for one can’t drive a car so sorry, I will remain the evil cyclist, the most well-known polluter on the planet according to research by people in cars that wanna go fast.
I understand that there isn’t always cycle paths, not saying there is, but when I’m driving down the likes of Racecourse and there’s cyclists on the road when there is a cycle path literally on the other side of the hedge, it is a little annoying, especially when there’s a constant stream of traffic coming the other way.
Also had a few cyclist refuse to give way to me when I’m passing a long line of parked vehicles. If cyclists want space, it works both ways…
Yes im with you on all your points.
I do all ways when safe pull over to let drivers past me and i will wave drivers on at junction as i know its a pain to pass bikes
We are not all selfish bikers.
Why helmets are not mandatory in Netherlands and yet they have much lower injury rate than Australia which mandates them?
How mandatory helmets affect convenience and therefore biking rate vs lost opportunity cost of people not getting their exercise?
I thought that Netherlands figured that with good infrastructure, head injury was a small fraction of injuries, not worth the inconvenience debuff.
I know the casualty. He died on scene. Car drivers really need to take more care.
Seem like a real nice guy mate
Keep it up
That is why all cars should fitted with a dash cam.
And all cyclists and pedestrians? It’s not always the car drivers fault
Just staying the obvious here, but there is simply no contest between the average car vs person on bike. Not sure why so many car drivers think they own & police the road ‘rules’, often pushing their weight around to make a point when they feel aggrieved and if other road users don’t obey what they feel is ‘right’. Whatever any one’s issue is with bikes, horses, pedestrians etc, the truth is YOU as a car driver need to take care because your heavy piece of metal can have serious consequences. Take a deep breath before you get in your car, get off your “I dominate the road” mentality and if you’ve got rage issues, just stay at home.
Sincere condolences to the family of the cyclist; (at the moment) the circumstances of how it happened are irrelevant given this tragic outcome.
Well said. We are all in this together (all road users) just go kindly about your travelling, however you are doing it.
Yes Alan What you say is true. BUT the safety on the islands roads is only as good as the worst road users. The island roads are not exactly different to other parts of the UK., but the majority of the rural roads are not realy geared up for todays modern traffic. Todays cars are much faster and bigger, some of these cars are huge. When I’m traveling and cyclists are approaching in the opposite direction, its not uncommon for one of these giant 4x4s to overtake them on the wrong side of the road, frightening.
This was a tragic event that will affect the mans loved ones, my thoughts are with them. Please all road users please be patient
Wasting your time lecturing. Most here are too stupid to understand, and even if they did, they don’t care anyway.
Your right, these idiots will never understand or except the obvious, they don’t give a dam..
yes well said ,you are responsible ,due care and attention and respect other road users .my condolences to the family
Could you be more disrespectful??
Sincere condolences to the family.
Was not aware of that at time of writing
If promotion of cycling is to be the way forward which is good but ffs island council provide more cycle tracks / safe areas .safe identified lanes
it was only a matter of time and will happen again .
as for E Scooters total disaster should be off the roads and pavements ,got rid of altogether
An idiot this morning was cycling his tricycle on a way street up the wrong way. He had to stop to let me through and when I told him it was a one way street he replied, yes I know then carried on riding after I passed absolute muppet.
