Emergency services are this morning (Monday) working to free two people who have become trapped inside their vehicle following a road traffic collision in Cowes.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene shortly before 08:00 this morning following reports of a vehicle crashing into a hedge at the junction of Place Road and Highfield Road.
The assistance of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was later requested to cut the two unknown persons from the wreckage.
UPDATE @ 09:20 – One person has been freed from their vehicle and taken to St Mary’s Hospital after fire crews from Ryde, Newport and East Cowes cut the roof of the vehicle away. It was initially feared two persons were trapped.
Initial reports indicated only one vehicle was involved in the road traffic collision, however a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that three vehicles have been involved.
Place Road remains closed to traffic this morning while debris is cleared from the carriageway, with Southern Vectis’ Route 1 service diverting via Three Gates Road and is not serving Park Road.
UPDATE @ 10:21 – Place Road and Highfield Road, Cowes have now re-opened to traffic.
