152 cases of coronavirus have now been identified on the Isle of Wight, Public Health England have confirmed.
Data released this afternoon (Friday) shows a rise in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases locally by 3, from 149 yesterday to 152 today.
Such an increase is not surprising given that a testing facility has been open at Medina now for a couple of weeks, undoubtedly adding to the number of cases being discovered and verified. Previously, tests were only being carried out in hospital and therefore the cases represented Islanders who were fairly unwell with the virus. Now, tests are being carried out for key workers who state they have symptoms of coronavirus.
NHS England report that there have now been 29 coronavirus deaths in hospital, with the Office for National Statistics confirming a further 6 people have died in the community – as of 24th April.
The latest information from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust confirms 25 people have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from hospital.
Yet lockdown is to be eased WHY?
To be honest, in the Ventnor/Shanklin area, it doesn’t seem like there is any sort of lockdown anyway.

Of a list of reasons given as to why this country’s mortality rate is so high one was “ While many countries closed their airports and ports, or introduced strict quarantine rules for those who arrive, the UK has done neither of these things.
It is estimated that 15,000 people are still arriving by plane each day, even though the country has been in lockdown for six weeks.
So by all means FF stay lock up.
Reports on the news this morning, Saturday, people arriving on flights will have to go into 14 day quarantine, apart from Ireland. Trouble is, your relying on people’s honesty. Agree, British Government reacted way too slow to this virus. We were all warned by the Doctor in China back in December who said ‘close the UK down’. Lots of deaths could have been avoided if they had reacted to his advice, most certainly he knew what was coming and heading out into the world. Then he was arrested for trying to warn the rest of the world, then apparently he caught the virus and died! Disappeared?! This virus has spread so quickly and has been like nothing we have seen before. I sincerely hope the truth is revealed once an investigation gets underway!!!
I flew back from New Zealand Jan 30 they were getting ready to shut there airports, singapore had screening in place and why not covid 19 outbreak was 2 months old landed in london absolutely zero measures in place.
It’s high because they are fabricating the numbers,dont forget projection was 500,000 deaths! Really! We have been had.
No easing of lockdown, only Garden Centres are opening as far as I know. It was gossip regarding unlimited time outdoors for exercise. Way too soon for that. I’m sure the garden centres will have distancing measures in place to keep people the required 2 metres apart. Oh, and the tip, we can now go and book a slot so people can dump their garden waste etc. We have very slowly got to be allowed out under CONTROLLED restrictions to return to daily life. Majority of people are responsible but unfortunately you will always get the idiots like the ones we have been hearing about since the beginning of lockdown.
Fresh in the news “ The aviation industry is calling on the government to provide greater clarity on plans to quarantine for a fortnight all travellers coming to Britain, amid concerns that the measures could have severe repercussions for the travel and tourism industries.
So why have we been under house arrest for so long and why is the government only now thinking of quarantining passengers particularly as it is impossible to self distance/isolate yourself on an aircraft.
Exactly so what is the point of us all staying in now? It’s too little too late. I think that’s why most people are ignoring the lockdown,they are sick of it

A Consultant in Milan Giuseppe Remuzzi, I have been emailing tells me he had patients presenting with Covid-19 like symptoms as early as last November. They are investigating their patient notes. I asked if they have done any tests for Sars-cov-2 on any patient samples to confirm this.Lombardy has a large ethnic PRC population in the textiles sector. Its possible it was there earlier than reported. My experience over in NI is that it might well have been about then. We had many odd CAP presentations with odd symptoms at Ulster Hospital.
The worry I have the way HMG is managing this pandemic is when we reach the end of June, when they will lighten up a bit. It is still running exponentially, by say July will should start to drop off, during the Summer. The problem is we need to know the risk due to asymptomatic carriers, which is why they need a mobile SWAT team set up to do mass community testing, say in Supermarket queues, Homebase etc, they need a Covid-19 bus with a minlab, also get folk to fill in questionnaires while waiting to get into Tesco etc like they did in Germany. The more tests results we have will help to predict if and when the second wave will happen, say mid October onwards. So they need to get their Wellies on asap.
BMJ had a paper about death certificates and Covid-19 as a result of that threat of a High Court judgement about an unidentified Health Trust who instructed CAP to be put down instead of Covid-19. This was then later rescinded. The problem is one can have Covid-19 but die of some other co-morbidity. Death certificates are unreliable. I saw some last year with CAP and AKI for example.
Maybe a lot of people need things that shanklin provides like alcohol hand gel face masks etc .try obtain in sandown for example hrs walk gets you shanklin and back no doubt .just a thought or maybe fact
A further 6 deaths? My neighbour works in a care home and told me yesterday they had 6 deaths in the last week… So are they telling us their number is from one care home? I doubt it.

So how long do we stay locked up? And what happens when we come out of hiding? Sweden didnt run away and hide,no lockdown. Do some research you numpys. They now have herd immunity and no second spike for them. Oh and just a small thing,their economy is still intact ,ours in bits.
Some people are behaving so irresponsibly and ignoring lockdown and distance keeping. It is very worrying going shopping. These people are selfish and endangering others. In Tesco people go far too near others and I saw an elderly woman with a child walking around as if there was no virus, staying close to others etc.
