A cordon is in place outside of Central in Wroxall this morning (Thursday) after a brick was put through the shop window.
Island Echo understands that entry to the West Street convenience store was forced at around 05:00.
A painted brick was launched at the bottom pane of a front window, leaving glass all over the pavement.
Blood can be seen inside the shop where the burglar caught themselves on shards of broken glass.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are standing guard of the shop ahead of the arrival of Newport CID later this morning.
It is unknown at this time what – if anything – has been stolen, and if any arrests have been made.
Police have been approached for comment.
UPDATE @ 10:00 – Police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and identify those involved.

Cctv will probably reveal the person who broke the window had the usual criminals uniform on, of black hoody, grey track suit bottoms and possibly a face mask.
