Firefighters tackled a small bin fire in Ryde last night (Saturday) following reports by a member of the public of a fire behind a busy pub.
A contingency crew, made up of non-FBU members, turned out from Drill Hall Road in Newport at around 22:30 to attend the incident behind Weatherspoons in Church Lane, using a Cowes Fire Station appliance.
Upon arrival it was discovered that a small fire was burning, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters using a hose reel.
The crew returned to their off-station location shortly before 23:00, as reported by Island Echo.
Yesterday’s strike action, held between 14:00 and 02:00 this morning, saw reduced fire cover across the Isle of Wight as Fire Brigade Union members walked out in a row over pensions.
Firefighters are due to strike again today from 10:00 until 15:00.
