VENTNOR WOMAN WHO STOLE JACK DANIELS FROM TESCO ORDERED TO PAY £15 COMPENSATION

A Ventnor woman who stole a bottle of Jack Daniels from the town’s Tesco store has been ordered to pay £15 compensation. Stephanie Smith, 27, of Albert Street in Ventnor, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last week. Crown Prosecutor, Lauren Stone, told the court that on 12th November, at around 15:55 in the afternoon, Smith entered the Tesco Express store on High Street and picked up some foodstuffs of an unknown value and a £15 bottle of Jack Daniels. Smith then proceeded to leave the shop without making any attempts to pay for the goods. The incident was caught on CCTV and Smith was recognised by Police. Smith was last in trouble back in 2008 when she stole some underwear from New Look in Fareham when she was just 12 years old. Defending, Barry Arnett said that his client was going through a difficult period at the time of the offence and that she had self-referred herself to Inclusion after realising she has a small issue with alcohol. Magistrates handed Smith a compensation order in which she was told to pay £15 to Tesco. She was ordered to pay costs of £40.
