A cold weather alert has been issued by the Met Office alongside a yellow severe weather warning for ice.
Residents across the Isle of Wight and throughout the country are being warned that widespread icy patches are expected to readily form from 16:00 this afternoon, throughout tonight and into tomorrow morning. Clear spells later on this evening will allow temperatures to fall sharply and the Met Office say the likelihood is at its maximum rating.
Meanwhile, the cold temperatures this week have triggered a yellow Cold Weather Alert by the Met Office. This is an important stage for social and healthcare services who will be working to ensure readiness and swift action to reduce harm from a potential period of cold weather.
Prolonged periods of cold weather can be dangerous, especially for the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.
