UPDATED: The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team are this afternoon working to rescue a dog who has fallen down the cliff at Freshwater Bay.
Following an emergency call shortly before 16:20, volunteer rescue members have been tasked to the area of Fort Redoubt where it is understood a dog has fallen down part of the cliff and is quickly becoming cut off by the tide.
Thankfully, initial reports indicate that the dog is on its feet and moving.
A cliff rescue operation is now underway to safely retrieve the pet and reunite it with its owners.
UPDATE FRIDAY: After falling some 70ft down the cliff face Rascal – a springer spaniel – has been safely reunited with his owners who were visiting the Island from St Alban’s.
A member of The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team was lowered down the cliff at Watcombe Bay and retrieved the pet, who was uninjured.
