UPDATED: Coastguard Rescue Teams and Police are tonight (Sunday) attending an incident at Whale Chine off Military Road in the South Wight.
Search lights have been seen near to the cliff edge following the release of a flare, which is believed to have been used to direct in emergency teams.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team are on scene near Atherfield after being mobilised shortly before 21:00 and have been accompanied by Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team.
A spokesperson for the MCA says the incident is being led by Police.
UPDATE @ 22:15 – A full cliff rescue operation is underway tonight at Whale Chine involving two Coastguard Rescue Teams.
Coastguard officers have been lowered over the edge, to what is reported to be a boat that has run aground on ‘Coastguard’s Ledge’.
UPDATE @ 23:15 – Island Echo understands at least one sailor has been brought to safety tonight.
Attempts are being made to secure the boat to allow for a safe recovery tomorrow (Monday).
UPDATE MONDAY @ 07:30 – The operation to rescue the sailor has been successful.
According to sources, this is the second time the lone Czech national has got into difficulty this week after previously damaging a sail on board the yacht.
Thankfully, the sailor has escaped from the incident uninjured.
UPDATE TUESDAY – It has been confirmed that a 40-year-old man has been arrested by local Police, who were executing a warrant on behalf of Police Scotland.
It is currently unknown on what offence the gentleman has been arrested on.
The yacht remains in situ at Whale Chine.
