Police and Coastguard Rescue Teams were called to the Blackgang area this evening (Friday) over concerns for the welfare of a man who was seen near to the edge of cliffs at Blackgang Chine.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after 18:15 following a report from a member of the public of an unknown man near to the cliff edge close to the popular tourist attraction.
Island Echo received reports of three Police cars rushing through Upper Ventnor towards Blackgang via the Isle of Wight Breaking News group on Facebook just over five minutes after the 999 call was made, alerting reporters to the incident.
A police spokesman has this evening confirmed that the man had been located and safely escorted away from the cliff edge at around 19.00. No persons have been injured.
