Ventnor Rugby Club has once again shown its community spirit by collecting a record-breaking 183 selection boxes and chocolates as part of its annual Christmas appeal.
Each December, the club runs its selection box appeal to help spread some festive cheer to those in need across the Isle of Wight.
This year’s donations have been distributed to the Mountbatten Hospice, St Mary’s Hospital’s Children’s Ward, CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and for the first time, Age Concern in Shanklin.
Despite a slow start due to several cancelled fixtures, the club rallied together to exceed all previous years’ totals.
Tim Davis, VRFC Christmas Fundraiser, has said:
“It wasn’t looking very good after a couple of weeks into December due to lots of our games being cancelled for multiple reasons, but the lads, supporters and everyone involved with the club smashed it and I’ve never been prouder to be involved with a club that is at the heart of the Isle of Wight community and will support anything they can.”
