From pictures to nuggets – an empty building in the town centre of Newport could be brought back to life as a chicken shop.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the former Island Photo Centre shop closed its doors on St James Street, Newport last year and moved all its operations to its Ryde store on Union Street.
The Newport store has been empty for more than a year, but new plans from Mr T. Pirapagaron, submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, could see a chicken shop takeaway move in.
The opening hours could be from 08:00 to 23:00, 7 days a week.
Planning agent, Norman White, says in documents, the new chicken shop will offer an additional choice of food in that part of Newport, to the town’s benefit.
Mr White also says the proposals would save the building from being left empty to the detriment of Newport’s retail environment.
Signs could be added to the front of the building and a kitchen and preparation area constructed inside from plasterboard stud walling.
You can view the plans, 23/01630/FUL, on the Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 3rd November.

More parking on pavement in Node Hill stopping busses and traffic. Put them out of town enough along there already
No Traffic law on the island.
The Island is run by Numpties
Yes just the ticket.Upscaling the timbre of a fine old town with the alluring bouquet of roasted chicken carcasses travelling on the breeze ? Another triumph.
A fine old town? It’s a dump! At least it would make a change from another charity, coffee shop or pub.
Wish it was Nando’s opening there
We can but dream …
Even a roast chicken shop would be better than more fried shite.
