Island Photo Centre has announced that it is to close its Upper St James’ Street store in Newport after 32 years in business.
The Isle of Wight business has confirmed that the doors will close for the last time at the end of the month, with staff and stock moving from Newport to join the firm’s other store in Ryde on 1st September.
Free delivery will be offered across the Island for those unable to get to Ryde.
The business has taken to social media this week to say:
“It is sad to be closing Newport, but times have changed and trading has become far more of a challenge recently with problems of stock supply.
“We’d like to thank all our customers, some of whom have been with us for the full 32 years! Don’t worry though, as Chris and Debs will be working in Ryde where great service will be continued”.
Island Photo Centre’s Ryde store is located at 52 Union Street and is open Monday to Saturday, 09:00-17:00.

It feel’s so good seeing Newport town centre dying slowly…
I’m guessing you’re being sarcastic?
I think the joke was in the user name as well as the comment. I got it.
Another empty space in an already empty town. IoW Council really need to assess the business rates charged, Newport is becoming a bit of a waste of time to visit.
I’d rather live next door to them than a nasty, vindictive, bitter and twisted old Karen like you. I imagine you make your neighbours lives an absolute misery with your constant whining, curtain twitching and complaining about every little thing.
The Isle of Wight population is over 95% white British, so you expect wrong.
Does that include Northern’s ?
With the lunatics plans to “pedestrianise” the place and do away with parking spaces more businesses will fold
It would still be an improvement on the ten’s of thousands of OAP’s that live here.
This is tragic news indeed. Surely just a few weeks after the laserdisc centre, Betamax, Philips 2000 and 78rpm stores closed.
You are right, no one could have saw this one coming. Still they are going to invest in vacuum tubes for colour tv’s so what could possibly go wrong this time for their investment?
