A leading cardiac charity has seen fundraising success at its recent Isle of Wight quiz and curry night, raising more than £1,500.
Hosted at the Royal Solent Yacht Club in Yarmouth earlier this month, the quiz night saw 10 enthusiastic teams – including Island Echo – battle it out during an evening of laughter and friendly competition.
By the end of the evening, a fantastic £1,566.11 had been raised to support Heartbeat’s vital work across the region providing specialised equipment, services and facilities to support cardiac patients and their families.
The quiz winners were Hearts of Gold (RWR Associates), with Sizewell B-Cup (Angelsons Ltd) coming in as runners-up. The award for Best Team Name went to On the Beer with No Idea! (Churchers Solicitors), while Hose Rhodes Dickson took home the wooden spoon prize.

Tanya Harder, Marketing Manager at Heartbeat, has said:
“We’d like to thank our generous sponsors Emerald Elite VA Services and everyone who took part in the quiz. Every pound raised will help us continue to support cardiac patients and their families not only from the Wessex region and beyond, but also directly from the Isle of Wight as well. I hope everyone who attended had a terrific evening and learnt about the positive difference their contributions make.”
Part of Heartbeat’s range of projects across the Isle of Wight, the quiz night follows the charity’s Healthy Heart Checks at Quay Arts Café in Newport on Wednesday 15th October. With checks carried out for 30 people, the event raises awareness of heart health and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Tanya added:
“Taking care of your heart doesn’t have to be complicated – simple steps like eating a balanced diet, staying active, and even going for a daily walk can make a big difference. Our Healthy Heart Checks are a quick and simple way to find out more about your heart health and help prevent heart disease.”
Hannah Woodford, from Quiz sponsors Emerald Elite VA Services, said:
“It is always such an honour and privilege to be able to sponsor events like Beat The Heat and the Healthy Heart Checks. Heartbeat is an absolutely incredible charity and what they do is nothing short of groundbreaking.
“The passion that Tanya and the rest of the Heartbeat team put in to helping support incredible and life-saving innovations as well as providing a safe place for cardiac patients and their families is so overwhelmingly sincere and real, and that in itself is worth shouting about! I feel incredibly proud an honoured to have been asked to be the Isle of Wight Ambassador for Heartbeat and I will strive to continue raising awareness and funds for them.”

Well done to everyone involved.
