Hampshire Constabulary are today investigating whether a cat was shot with a air weapon in Ryde.
The feline was found in the Pelhurst Road area with wounds consistent with having been shot with a .22 calibre air weapon.
It is believed the incident occurred between 14:45 and 15:00 on Tuesday.
Sadly, the pet suffered horrific internal injuries and was put to sleep immediately on arrival at the vets.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward. The area would have been busy at the time as students from Ryde Academy left the school grounds.
