An Isle of Wight nursery has been given the highest possible rating by the government’s education watchdog demonstrating a huge improvement in the past year.
Clever Cloggs Day Care in Carisbrooke has jumped from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Outstanding’ in just 12 months, according to Ofsted. Manager, Brenda Dyer said she was very proud of the team and all the work they have done over the past year to extend their own knowledge and expertise, to gain the much sought-after grade.
An Ofsted inspector said children display high levels of emotional security and are eager to learn and that the nursery is a ‘safe, respectful and deeply kind environment where children flourish.’
Based on the same site as Carisbrooke C of E Primary, on Wellington Road, its staff pay close attention to children’s individual cues, particularly to those who are at an early stage in their communication development and are incredibly attentive as they offer comfort and encouragement, the report said.
It calls staff ‘tremendously’ skilled, helping bring stories to life at reading time and arranging thoughtful and thorough plans to help children transition to school.
Ofsted said all children, including those with special educational needs and those with English as an additional language, receive exceptional support in developing their early communication skills.
A ‘meaningful, rich and highly ambitious’ curriculum supports children to reach their full potential, implemented by the manager and her team. Development activities are meticulously planned, the report found. Parents spoke highly of the nursery to Ofsted inspectors and children behave exceptionally well.
They develop a secure understanding of how to keep their bodies safe and healthy and the manager and her team demonstrate outstanding knowledge of their safeguarding roles and responsibilities, keeping children safe from potential harm.
