UPDATED: Emergency Services are currently attending a road traffic incident on Bonchurch Road, between Ventnor and Shanklin this evening (Saturday).
Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are working to free the occupants of a red vehicle that has left the road.
The incident has occurred on the section of road that is locally known as Dunnose Bend. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 19:30.
The vehicle, a BMW 1-series, is believed to have been travelling towards Shanklin before coming to rest in the woodland lining the A3055.
Two fire appliances from Newport and Shanklin are in attendance at the incident alongside 5 paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
UPDATE @ 21:30 – One female, believed to be a passenger, has been extricated from the vehicle and is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital alongside a second casualty, a male. They are not thought to have sustained any life-threatening injuries.
Fire crews, who had stabilised the vehicle using props, have now left the scene. Recovery of the vehicle has been arranged.
The National Speed limit A-road between the two towns remains open with no major delays to Southern Vectis buses.
UPDATE @ 23:00 – The vehicle has been recovered by Bartletts Service Station tonight. The scene has now been cleared.
Two people are being treated at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
