A small hatchback car was heavily damaged last night (Saturday) following a collision on Middle Road near Freshwater.
Police were called to the scene near to the junction with The Causeway at around 22:25 by a passing member of the public, who discovered a Citroen Saxo at the side of the carriageway.
Witnesses have told Island Echo that it appeared the driver of the vehicle made off from the scene before Police arrived.
The Saxo suffered severe damage, including a wheel having been ripped from the vehicle due to the force of the impact.
It is understood the driver escaped any serious injury.
