UPDATED: A campervan has collided with a traffic island and come to rest on its side following a Police pursuit in Cowes tonight (Friday).
According to Island Echo readers, the E-reg camper was being pursued by Police units on Newport Road at just before 23:00. Then, just minutes later, the vehicle collided with a bollard at the junction of Three Gates Road and Place Road.
Place Road has been partially closed whilst recovery of the vehicle, which is now completely on its side, is arranged.
Island Roads are on scene due to the damage to street furniture and debris on the carriageway.
UPDATE @ 00:20 – Recovery of the vehicle is underway, as is the clear up operation due to the contents of the campervan being spread across the road.
Island Echo understands the vehicle was only sold by its previous owner at 18:00.
Bartletts Service Station are expected to remove the vehicle from the scene shortly.
UPDATE @ 01:06 – The campervan has been recovered and the road has now reopened.
