UPDATED: BOTH VEHICLE FERRY AND RED JET HIT BY SUNDAY CANCELLATIONS

Disruption to Red Funnel’s services continues today (Sunday) with a further 6 vehicle ferry sailings cancelled, alongside 4 Red Jet sailings.

The cross-Solent operator had to cancel a number of crossings on its East Cowes-Southampton route yesterday due to an issue with the propulsion system on Red Eagle.

The problem on the Aft Voith unit has not been resolved overnight so the 05:00, 08:00 and 11:00 sailings from Southampton have been cancelled, alongside the 06:30, 09:30 and 12:30 sailings from East Cowes.

A lack of available staff on the hi-speed Red Jet service is compounding issues too.

It’s been confirmed that the 06:40 and 07:50 foot passenger sailings have been pulled this morning, as well as the 07:14 and 08:25 return sailings from West Cowes.

It’s unclear at this stage whether there will be further disruption to either or both routes as the day progresses.

UPDATE @ 10:06 – Red Funnel has now cancelled the 14:00, 17:00 and 20:15 sailings from Southampton, as well as the 15:30, 18:30 and 21:45 from East Cowes.

The hi-speed Red Jet service has returned to timetable.

And so the fiasco that is Red Funnel continues, I will revise my estimate of bankruptcy to late August, or early September, just after or during the bank holiday period.

foreign money buying into companies , then bleeding the companies dry. They probably don’t even know where or what the Isle of Wight is.

They can apologise as much as they like, the fact is they can’t run a proper reliable service. We need a British company who can invest in more reliable ferries and have a standby policy to allow for unexpected staff absences. At the moment, the Isle of Wight is hitting National News for all the wrong reasons.

Red Funnel is going to get a reputation as bad as FB6 at this rate. They need to start investing more into the service and staff or RF will gradually bury itself into the ground / or sea.

Isn’t it about time Red funnel started to run a reliable service that customers can rely on. We pay over the top to use it with such a crap service .DISCUSSED.

Sack the accountants and recruit someone who has experience of running a service with the ethic of serving the public and putting us ahead of the greedy shareholders. Sadly a virtual impossibility in Tory rip-off Britain.

Red Funnel do not have to provide a reliable service, they only have to make money. Until government legislation changes this (like the bus services, planes, trains, etc) we have no actual rights to demand anything of them.
