Fire crews are this morning tackling a blaze at GKN Aerospace in East Cowes.
Four pumping appliances plus the Aerial Ladder Platform from Ryde, as well as the Foam Salvage Tender from East Cowes, were called to the Ferry Road site at 09:48 after receiving a 999 call stating that a fire had ignited at the industrial factory.
Island Echo understand a pump house caught fire behind an industrial oven used to set moulds for aeroplane and fighter jet components.
Smoke could be seen rising from the factory at the height of the blaze.
Two appliances remain at Clarence Road in the town using an emergency exit as an access point to the building. Crews are damping down the area.
An emergency fire control plan was implemented at the scene this morning due to the hazardous chemicals stored at the Falcon site.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also in attendance (Paramedics have now left the scene – 11:00).
Motorists are being diverted via Osbourne Road.
