Firefighters from Newport were called to the new biomass plant at Arreton earlier this evening (Wednesday) following calls from concerned members of the public.
Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene off the main Arreton to Newport road at 20:40 after receiving reports of a fire.
Upon arrival of fire crews it was made clear that there was no apparent blaze, however it is believed flares from the plant’s ventilation system sparked the alert.
Crews left the scene at 21:00.
