A Ryde man who was caught parked near a pelican crossing just 4 months into a 17-month driving ban has appeared before Magistrates.
Andrew Tyler, 41, of Slade Road in Ryde pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and driving without 3rd party insurance when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that at 13:15 on 15th February, Tyler was seen by Police parked in his Ford Focus on the zigzaged area at the bottom of Castle Road in Newport.
Officers asked to see Tyler’s ID and after checking this they found the 41-year-old to be disqualified from driving. He was also found to be driving with no insurance. Tyler was reported for both of these offences.
The 41-year-old was disqualified from driving for 17 months back in October 2022 after he was found to be driving with excess alcohol in his system.
Defending, Barry Keel said that his client had purchased the car for his partner who was learning to drive. He also added that Tyler had decided to drive a friend to an appointment in Newport, despite not legally being allowed to do so.
The case has been adjourned for sentencing until 31st March. A pre-sentence report is to be compiled for that hearing.
Where do these defence solicitors find all their excuses for their clients they truly are laughable a bit like Jasper Carrots famous insurance claims gag.
It is their job to do that.
If they didn’t it the defendant could claim a mistrial.
The magistrate is fully aware that he’s just going through the motions.
And yet the magistrates still hand down laughable sentences that keep us, the general public, all at risk. You watch, probably an extension on his ban and a fine.
Would you rather they made something up that wasn’t true then? Their job is to rationalise and explain what happened not blag it
