A 21-year-old man has been banned from driving after being caught riding an uninsured off-road bike while under the influence of drugs.
Ziggy Lloyd, 21, of Orchardleigh Road in Shanklin, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday (20th March) where he admitted drug driving, possession of a Class B controlled drug, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, appearing via video link, told the court that on 5th August 2025 at around 10:30, police on Station Road in Wootton spotted 2 men riding a Surron bike wearing black balaclavas.
Officers heard one of the riders say “let’s go” before they rode off along the Newport – Wootton cycle track towards Park Road.
Police gave chase, with the riders seen crossing Fairlee Road and heading towards Island Harbour.
After losing sight of the bike, officers deployed a drone, which located the riders travelling along the N120 path beside the River Medina.
Lloyd was later stopped in Seaclose Park, where he was searched and a small quantity of cannabis was found in his bag.
A blood test taken at Newport Police Station confirmed Lloyd was above the specified limit for THC.
Officers also established that the bike was unregistered and uninsured. Lloyd further admitted he only held a provisional licence.
Defending, Jim Osborne, told the court that Lloyd had admitted his guilt at the first opportunity and used cannabis to help him sleep.
Magistrates disqualified Lloyd from driving for 14 months and fined him £140. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £56 surcharge.

My is it 1st April, bet he won’t keep to this disqualification, plenty of others don’t.
Another pointless sentence
Hopefully the Bike was destroyed !!

Well done catching these persons, wouldn’t it be great
