The National Police Air Service helicopter was drafted in to help locate a youth reportedly armed with a knife following an assault in East Cowes during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
At around 02:00, Police were alerted to an alleged assault on Yarborough Road in which a 19-year-old is said to have been assaulted by a youth armed with a knife.
The victim was hit in the face and lost a tooth as a result. This happened in the grounds of the church near the junction with Adelaide Grove.
A crime scene cordon was erected but had been lifted by 05:00.
The Bournemouth-based Police helicopter spent around 30 minutes circling the skies about East Cowes.
It has now been confirmed to Island Echo that a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy have both been arrested on suspicion of assault.
The duo remain in custody at Newport Police Station for questioning.

Why the hell are we still drafting in fully equipped helicopters from the mainland at a huge cost rather than buying drones that could serve us so much better on the island and at a substantially lower cost?
there is no detergent for any crime in this country anymore we have slid into the realm of do as you like and bash the police when it’s the courts that need sorting and excuses are just excepted as the norm and prison is a place not to be feared but a rest home for yobs .
untill this is sorted this type of thing will just get worse .

We need to build more prisons now as a matter of urgency ! More and more lenient sentences are being handed out by the courts. It seems crime really does pay !!
What we need are borstals like St Swithins in Yarmouth run with harsh enough discipllne that once experienced would be a deterrent to ever being sent back, also it should be mandatory that any crime which is repeated should automatically result in doubling of the sentences, it is past time that the do gooders and pc mob were shown the door.
