A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure after shocked residents saw a male masturbating whilst sitting in a van in Newport on Monday. The incident occurred on Elm Grove, off Whitepit Lane, on Monday morning and was reported to Police at lunchtime the same day. Island Echo understands that a man was seen pleasuring himself in a white Ford Transit, which was parked outside a row of houses and not far from the Nine Acres Playing Fields. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been investigating the indecent act, which has led to an arrest. It has been confirmed that a 50-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure. He has been bailed with conditions until 1st August while enquiries continue. A spokesperson for the Police has said:
“We are grateful to the community for reporting this incident to us, and continue to encourage anyone with concerns or information about suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood to report this to police on 101. Dial 999 if a crime is in progress”.
This incident is not being linked to another incident involving a van on Westminster Lane on Monday.
